Southern Region

The Regional Support Executive is based in Alice Springs. Its role is to implement and work with other agencies to facilitate the directions and priorities of Government in the southern region of the Northern Territory. The Office also provides support to representatives of the Department in Tennant Creek, Katherine, Nhulunbuy, Jabiru and Groote Eylandt.

The Unit is the only part of the Department based outside of Darwin and undertakes the following principal functions:

• Facilitating the various projects under the Alice in 10 banner.
• Facilitating the Desert Knowledge Project.
• Providing policy advice to the Chief Minister, Minister for Central Australia and Chief Executive on matters affecting the southern region.
• Coordinating public sector activities to ensure a whole of Government approach to issues impacting upon the southern region.
• Providing an access point to Government for business and the general public.
• Providing a regional service for other units, such as the Community Engagement units and Protocol.
• Supporting other regional centres in regional planning and operational issues.
