Office of the Parliamentary Counsel

The Office of the Parliamentary Counsel (OPC) drafts legislation for the Northern Territory Government and private members of the Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory, namely:

• Bills for introduction in the Legislative Assembly, which when passed and assented to become Acts of the Northern Territory
• subordinate legislation for making by the Administrator, judges and magistrates, councils and other statutory authorities (e.g. regulations, rules of court, by-laws, community government schemes)
• statutory instruments for making by the Administrator, Ministers and statutory officeholders (e.g. appointments, declarations, notices, planning schemes)

OPC also publishes Northern Territory legislation electronically on the following databases:

• Register of Legislation – Bills introduced in the Legislative Assembly and numbered Acts and subordinate legislation
• Current Northern Territory Legislation database – current consolidations of Acts and subordinate legislation
• Northern Territory Legislation History database – historical consolidations of Acts and subordinate legislation
