Strategic alliances
The Department of the Chief Minister uses a range of strategic alliances to promote the Northern Territory’s interests and objectives. These include intergovernmental frameworks such as Australia’s peak intergovernmental forum, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG).
The department was instrumental in negotiating the Overarching Agreement on Indigenous Affairs, which reflects the shared commitment of the Northern Territory and Australian governments to achieving better outcomes for Indigenous people in the Northern Territory.
We also work to build and strengthen our relationships, particularly our trade links, with the nations of the Asian region through our Major Projects, Asian Relations and Trade Division.
At a Territory level, we have negotiated partnership agreements with tertiary institutions to support improved economic and social outcomes for Territorians:
- Partnership Agreement between Charles Darwin University and the Northern Territory Government
- Partnership Agreement between Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education and the Northern Territory Government.
We also work closely with other organisations such as local government bodies and land councils.
