Rebates and grants
There are a number of incentives available to Territorians to become greenhouse friendly and save money on your power and water bills.
Energy Smart Rebate NT
The NT Government provides rebates to eligible households of up to $200 on selected energy saving items purchased by households in the Northern Territory. These energy saving devices will help Territorians save money, save power in the home and be a part of addressing climate change.
The Energy Smart Rebate covers selected power boards, energy efficient light globes, timers, power usage meters and fridge and freezer seals.
EcoBIZ NT
ecoBIZ NT is a free six step program and government grant rebate scheme that enables Territory businesses to manage their bottom line by becoming more energy efficient.
The program is aimed at providing small to medium businesses with individual and professional advice on energy, water and waste saving opportunities.
Grid Connected Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems
Installing a PV system is a method of generating your own electricity by harnessing solar energy via panels placed on the roof of your house.
Power and Water can buy all the electricity that your PV system generates if you are connected to the grid. This means your power bills will simply be the difference between the electricity you have used and the electricity your PV system has generated and fed back into the grid. If you use less electricity than your PV system generates, you will receive money instead of a bill.
Currently Power and Water is offering 15.52 cents per kWh generated by residential customers. A customised rate will be negotiated for PV solar systems greater than 10 kVA.
Installing a PV system is a big investment, but it has a number of benefits. You will:
- be producing clean, renewable energy
- reduce your power bills
- reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
EnvironmeNT Grants
EnvironmeNT Grants are available annually to individuals, community groups, local government and industry associations for environmental projects and educational activities in the Territory.
The Grants focus on assisting the NT community to develop better awareness and understanding of recent developments in environmental management, help the community become wiser at efficiently using our non-renewable resources, re-using waste products and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Applicants are also encouraged through their projects to promote environmental sustainability and conservation of native wildlife.
