Australian Bravery Awards

The Australian Bravery Decorations were created in 1975 as one of the original elements of the Australian system of honours and awards.

Nominations are submitted to the Australian Bravery Decorations Council, which makes recommendations to the Governor-General for approval of awards.

The Australian Honours Secretariat, located at Government House Canberra, serves the Australian Bravery Decorations Council.

Further information on the background to the establishment of the awards within the Australian Honours System including the Council for the Order of Australia and the Australian Bravery Decorations Council may be found on the Australian Honours website.
