Critical infrastructure protection

Critical infrastructure means facilities, supply chains and networks whose unavailability would have significant detrimental impact on the security of Australia or the social and economic wellbeing of its citizens.

Protecting critical infrastructure is a significant part of the government’s approach to keeping the NT community safe and secure. It requires partnerships between owners and operators and all levels of government.

It involves a range of strategies including protective security, crime prevention, business continuity and risk management, and emergency management. Find out more about critical infrastructure protection.

Trusted Information Sharing Network

Sharing information on security issues is an important way owners and operators can improve their own security and be better prepared. People involved in a range of industries and business can share their concerns, experiences and information, and receive national updates through the Trusted Information Sharing Network (TISN).

NT arrangements

The Department of the Chief Minister, Security and Emergency Recovery Unit and the NT Police Counter Terrorism Security Coordination Unit jointly manage the Framework for the Protection of Northern Territory Critical infrastructure. The Framework outlines management and governance arrangements for the protection of critical infrastructure, involving government at all levels, owners and operators, and their representative bodies. It reflects an “all hazards” approach to the protection of infrastructure from all threats, natural or man made, and outlines actions that can be taken to enhance the security and continuity of assets and supply chains.
