Counter terrorism arrangements

The national arrangements for countering terrorism have been agreed by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG).

The National Counter Terrorism Plan lays down the roles and responsibilities of various national and state organisations and agencies in responding to a terrorist incident.

The National Counter Terrorism Committee (NCTC) is the peak body charged with coordinating strategic policy advice on the development of nationwide counter terrorist capability. The Territory is represented on this committee by the Deputy Police Commissioner and the Department of the Chief Minister’s Executive Director Security and Government Services.

In a crisis the Department of the Chief Minister will initiate arrangements to ensure effective and secure communications links between relevant national agencies and the NT and other States as required.
