NT Police Fire and Emergency Services are responsible for managing the prevention, preparedness and response phases of the emergency management spectrum. The overarching document for managing emergencies is the NT All Hazards Emergency Arrangements. Click here for the NT Emergency Service web site and access to this Plan.
Recovery
The Department of the Chief Minister is responsible for coordinating the recovery phase of an emergency. This includes coordinating resources of the Territory with the aim of assisting communities to return to normal after an emergency. The recovery phase of an emergency commences after the initial response has stabilised the situation. It is a long-term endeavour that includes the whole community in activities such as providing personal services (finance, counselling, emergency accommodation), economic enhancement, restoration and reconstruction, and public health. The NT Emergency Recovery Plan outlines NT recovery coordination arrangements.
Personal Emergency Plans
The NT faces a diverse range of potential emergency events, including a list of natural disasters shown here. In relative terms the NT’s resources are limited and if a major disaster struck the Territory both Response and Recovery may take some time. Therefore all citizens are encouraged to have well developed emergency plans that provide a level of self-sufficiency in the first three days after an event. Advice on what should be considered in these personal plans is shown at Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services web site.
