Community Profiles

The community profiles aim to provide an understanding of the diverse multicultural groups in the Northern Territory.  The profiles, which have been developed with the assistance of the various community groups, include information on the history of the community’s settlement in the Northern Territory, the languages spoken, religions practiced and the events celebrated by the community. The Office of Multicultural Affairs acknowledges and thanks all those who have contributed to the development of these profiles.

Multicultural Calendar of Events 2009

The Multicultural Calendar of Events 2009 provides events, celebrations and commemorations of importance to the Territory’s multicultural communities.  The Office of Multicultural Affairs acknowledges the contribution from the Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory and the multicultural community associations in preparing this Calendar.

Building on the Territory's Diversity

The Northern Territory Government released its policy on multicultural affairs, entitled ‘Building on the Territory’s Diversity – A Multicultural policy for migrant and ethnic Territorians’ in January 2005.  As part of its commitment to ensure that its policies remain robust and serve the needs of all Territorians, the government, through its Office of Multicultural Affairs, is undertaking a review of its Multicultural Policy.

The People of the Northern Territory

The People of Northern Territory is a major compilation of statistics on birthplace, language, religion and ancestry from the 2006 Census of Population and Housing. This publication has gone to considerable lengths to create a data source which is unique, accurate, detailed and comprehensive.
