Message from the Chief Minister
INPEX’s decision to build its gas project in Darwin is an enormous vote of
confidence in the Territory and Territorians.
The $23 billion project will be a catalyst for development, driving economic growth and social growth in the city and beyond.
Employing up to 2000 people at the peak of construction and creating about 300 new, ongoing jobs, the INPEX gas project is the largest single private sector investment in Australia.
For the Northern Territory, the project means jobs, growth, economic sustainability and the impetus for new industrial development.
As the project comes on line over the coming period, my Government will be making sure Territorians gain the full benefits that a development like this brings.
We will make sure our environment and lifestyle are protected. We will make sure Territory people and businesses have the opportunity to benefit. And we will make sure our infrastructure and community are ready for the growth to come.
I welcome INPEX’s confidence in our future and plan to work with them to ensure this project delivers for all Territorians.
