Getting Territory Women on Boards

Women on boards and committees bring diversity, new voices and new experiences to a boardroom. Through the Women's Register, the Office of Women's Policy aims to increase the number of Territory women in leadership positions by connecting local organisations with women seeking board and committee appointments.

Visit the Women's Register page to find out more about:

  • Using the Women's Register to appoint board and committee members
  • Joining the women's register to nominate for boards and committees
  • Practical advice on acting on a board or committee

Financial Literacy among Marginalised Women

A 2007 Australian Government Report titled Financial Literacy among Marginalised Women provides valuable insights into how women can gain access to, and make sense of, financial information.

The research included women who are carers, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Indigenous women, women with disabilities, single mothers, women in rural and remote areas, and older women, including widows.

A summary table provides a guide to assist community organisations, financial institutions and policy makers to understand the barriers faced by marginalised groups gaining and making sense of financial information.

You can read the report on the FACSIA website.

The Role of the Office of Women's Policy

The Office of Women’s Policy in the Northern Territory is the Government’s central coordination, monitoring and reporting agency for women’s issues and oversees the development and implementation of the Government’s Policy Framework for women.

The Office is not a direct service provider however coordinates and administers a range of community engagement and community development schemes for women in the Northern Territory. These include;

  • Women’s Forums in urban and remote areas, where women can directly access the Minister for Women’s Policy and other Government Ministers;
  • The Tribute to Territory women, where each International Women’s Day the efforts and achievements of women are recognised and celebrated;
  • The Women’s Register and Leadership Kit, where women are provided with information and strategies for developing their leadership skills and can register their interest in being on non-government Boards and Committees; and
  • The Chief Minister's Study Scholarships for women, where women can apply for financial support for post-school study in the NT, now administered by Charles Darwin University on our behalf.
