Overseas Qualifications Unit

The Overseas Qualifications Unit (OQU) supports and assists overseas trained professionals, para-professionals, technical, trade and other skilled workers in obtaining recognition of their qualifications and skills. Accordingly, the OQU works closely with the Australian Education International-National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) to help the way that overseas skills are recognised in Australia.

The service is available to migrants with permanent residence status in Australia and those who hold student or work visas.

What services do we provide? We can:

  • Compare educational assessment of overseas qualifications, for general employment purposes, using the written guidelines prepared by AEI-NOOSR.
  • Advise clients on the various steps and processes involved in obtaining assessment/recognition of overseas qualifications in Australian and refer clients to appropriate agencies.
  • Advise clients on further study options if necessary to obtain recognition of overseas qualifications.
  • Where appropriate, refer migrants to English language study or relevant bridging courses and other programs to assist them in obtaining recognition in their professional field.
  • Provide information and advice regarding availability of income support during training.

Documents you will need to bring with you

  • Original or certified copies of documents including transcript of records, diplomas or certificates etc. These documents should have official translations in English if written in another language. Any problems you experience obtaining documentation should be discussed with OQU.
  • Passport or citizenship document.

You will need to make an appointment to ensure someone is available to speak with you. There are no charges for the use of this service, however if we are unable to assist you we may have to refer you to AEI-NOOSR for assessment which will incur a fee.
