Chief Executive's Welcome
The Department of the Chief Minister is crucial to the economic development of the Northern Territory, as well as the social development of Territorians, in a number of ways. Our primary purpose is to support the Chief Minister and Government to develop a confident, growing and socially cohesive Territory.
The Department takes the lead in achieving the Government’s priorities and is responsible for ensuring that they are implemented effectively by the public sector. Our strategic objectives are to:
- Provide leadership across Government
- Support social development
- Connect the community with Government
- Support economic development and
- Support the machinery of Government.
The most important way we achieve these objectives is through the coordination of coherent and soundly based advice to the Chief Minister and Cabinet. The views of our stakeholders are actively sought and incorporated into our policy advice processes.
Our clients are diverse and come from across the Territory. We have a close connection to the community through our Community Engagement programs and our role in organising Community Cabinets. The Department works closely with the local, national and international business sectors to secure positive economic outcomes for the Territory.
